Pyramid training provides strategies to foster social emotional health of the Child.

It builds upon a tiered public health approach to providing universal support to all children to promote wellness, targeted services to those who need more support, and intensive services to those who need them. The Pyramid model us a collaborative professional development system that fosters and sustains evidenced-based practices to support the social-emotional development and inclusion of children. The Colorado Pyramid Model training is a 50-hour series that supports early educators to recognize and reduce challenging behaviors in children while increasing positive behaviors. It also reduces stress, burnout, and turnover among existing early childhood educators and staff(including FFN’s) keeping Child care programs open and operating. Participants who complete this training will receive a badge of special recognition in the Colorado Professional Development Information System (PDIS) that opens various career development pathways. The infant/toddler & preschool training modules include:

  • Introduction and social emotional development

  • Responsive routines, Schedules, and Environments
  • Understanding Behavior
  • Teaching about feelings
  • Promoting Peer interactions
  • Individualized teaching of social emotional skills
  • Challenging Behaviors
  • Nurturing & Responsive relationships

  • Teaching social – emotional skills
  • Overview of PTR-YC

Coaching Time Commitment – 9 hours over 4 months. Coaching process
includes:

● Fidelity Observation Tool – classroom data is gathered
● Coachee completes Pyramid Model self-reflection check.
● Coach and Coachee review collected TPOT / TPITOS data and co-create one data informed coaching
goal and associated action plan.
● Complete action plan for the goal and capture at least 2 focused observations with reflection and
feedback and debrief.
● Practice Based Coaching is used in this process and videotaping will take place for further reflection
and feedback from both the coach and the coachee.
Pyramid Model Coaching Using Practice-Based Coaching
Practice-Based Coaching is a cycle of guiding practitioners use of evidence-based
practices for promoting positive child outcomes. It addresses coaching for individuals
and group coaching experiences with a coachee or teaching team. Practice-Based
Coaching increases the use of effective teaching practices with the following
components:
o Collaborative Partnerships- Coach and Coachee’s will build a collaboration partnership to
successfully build competencies and implement change.
o Shared Goals and Action Planning- Setting shared goals ensures that the Coachee, inexperienced or
experienced, is a strong empowered advocate for their own professional development journey.
Based on collected data.
o Focused Observations- Coaches will utilize TPOT or TPITOS, checklists, and or focused observations
data to inform skill building and decision making I the coaching partnership.
o Reflection and Feedback- The coach and coachee’s will reflect upon goals, observation data, action
plans, feelings, and mot to clarify action steps and process, with the understanding that achieving
and maintaining quality in early care and education is an interactive continuous improvement process
for all.
